Ease of swing on dream slopes

Directly in front of the lodge starts one of the most beautiful and longest runs in Austria. 11 kilometers and 1500 meters of altitude you lay down to the valley station in Obertraun. The uncrowded slopes invite you to perfect carving fun. Also for children, the slopes offer is small but nice. Because the chair and plate lift directly near the mountain station offers the perfect steepness for beginners. The descent to Gjaidalm (third section of the cable car) is worth seeing not only because of the fantastic panorama but also for children and beginners.

Freeride

The Krippenstein has become in the freeride scene due to its variety of variants to one of the hot spots in Austria. Decisive for this was the well-known freeride race White Rush or the second-round.

Thirty kilometers off-piste variants and a difference in height of over 1500 meters make every skier’s or boarder’s heart beat faster. Thanks to the altitude there is often really good powder. On the variants Schönberg, Angeralm, Imisel and Eisgrube you get really sweaty. All off-piste variants of the Freesports Arena Dachstein Krippenstein are located in the free alpine terrain, so please be sure to pay attention to your safety.

If you are on the Krippenstein for the first time you should book a ski instructor, as the variant runs are not easy to find and you can not miss their exits, otherwise you are faster than you want in one of the surrounding rock faces.

Safety tips:

  • Lawense spill detector (LVS) check, backpack with shovel, probe, first aid kit
  • Exercise with handling an avalanche transceiver
  • Helmet and protectors
  • Observe current law reports of situation reports and warning lights
  • Never alone and only with really good local knowledge
  • Beware of sinkholes and steep cliffs

Snowshoeing

A winter experience for anyone who would like to move in the wonderfully snow-covered winter landscape of the Dachstein plateau. In addition, snowshoeing is a sport that is definitely suitable for everyone. There are unforgettable hiking destinations such as the stone pine forest or the pastures of the plateau waiting for your visit. With snowshoes you move almost silently and can thus enjoy the silence “am Stein” richitg.

The Krippenstein can be perfectly explored on groomed and marked snowshoe trails. We gladly entered her on possible tour destinations.

The following tour destinations for beginners are recommended in the Freesports Arena Dachtein Krippenstein:

  • Hike to the World Heritage Spiral and on to the 5 fingers, light, groomed and marked with yellow poles
  • Snowshoe trail to Dachstein shark, light to medium, groomed and marked with yellow poles
  • Snowshoe trail to Dachstein view, light to medium, groomed and marked with yellow poles

This small selection of tour suggestions for snowshoe walkers is only a small excerpt. For more tours on the Dachstein plateau you need really good local knowledge. We therefore recommend the accompaniment of a mountain guide or snowshoe guide.
